“A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Eccl. 4:12
In the Beatitudes, mentioned in Matthew chapter six, Jesus taught the basics for living a successful christian life. His instructions address three specific duties that every Christian must combine if they wish to see the blessing of God released into their lives so that they can then be a blessing to a hurting world. These three duties are; Praying, Giving and Fasting.
A cord braided with three strands is not easily broken. Likewise when praying, fasting and giving are practiced together in the life of a believer, it creates a type of three-fold cord that cannot be broken by any weapon in the enemy’s arsenal. Could we be missing some of the greatest breakthroughs in our lives, because we fail to combine these dynamic forces together?
30, 60, & 100-Fold
In Mark chapter four we see the blessing of His divine harvest released in three measures. “thirty, sixty and one hundred-fold.” I believe that the key to reaping an optimal harvest is found in the three principles taught in the beatitudes. Prayer alone can bring a harvest of say… “thirty-fold”. However if you mix your praying with your giving (Acts 10:31), you’re aiming even higher and will reap “sixty-fold”. But if a believer is ever daring enough to combine their praying with their giving along with Sprit-inspired FASTING, they’re sure to reap “One Hundred-Fold”!
What is fasting? Stated simply, biblical fasting is refraining from food or any carnal appetite for a spiritual purpose. When you crucify your flesh in this manner, your spirit becomes uncluttered by the things of this world and remarkably receptive to the things of God.
Daniel fasted for twenty-one days. When his answer came through, the angel said that he had been delayed in a spiritual battle. Fasting prevailed because fasting breaks the power of the delayer! Fasting gets you to your promise quicker.
Fasting crucifies the flesh (Gal 2:20). The question is whether or not you will choose to dethrone the dictator within and release the blessing of God. Remember that without being combined with Praying and Giving; Fasting is little more than a diet with no power to release Matthew 6:33 in your life. If your fast doesn’t mean anything to you, it won’t mean anything to God.
Pray and ask God what He wants you to lay down over the next few days and whatever you chose do to in secret, He will reward you openly by releasing His overpowering blessing into your life!
